SIDEBARLaughs Those who grew-up in Morris County, NJ are probably familiar with the AT&T training facility in Chester that truly is a sght to see. The facility actually treats the logs used in making telephone poles with the preservative compound to make them weather and pest proof.  Now, imagine a field of these poles standing upright in unseen vats so that their tops are just a few feet above ground.  I remember being told by my folks that that was where telephone poles were born, and the little ones were "just babies that would grow up to be big and strong like their parents." It was always a neat place to drive past with your kids to tell them of the "urban legend" about where telephone poles came from. A good friend who grew up in the area told me about the time his now grown-up son was driving by the area and matter-of-factly explained to his girlfriend about the birthplace of  telephone poles and other myths which he actually believed "because his dad told him so." A SPECIAL NOTICE FROM THE
SOUTH PLAINFIELD PUBLIC LIBRARY

The Library will also be closed on Sunday, May 27^th, and on Monday, May 28^th, in observance of Memorial Day.

Throughout May, the Library will follow its usual schedule of children’s program-ming.  “Storytime” programs for children age 3 & over are held on Tuesday morning at 10:30, Wednesday evening at 6:30 and Thursday afternoon at 1:15.  “Time for 2’s & 3’s”, for children age 2 & 3, is held on Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 10:30, and Thursday evenings at 6:30.  And “Books & Babies”, for children age 3 and under, is held on Friday mornings at 10:30.  Each program lasts about an hour; no pre-registration is needed.  If you like more information, please call us and ask for Miss Linda or Miss Mija.

The Middlesex County Emergency Food Distribution Network now has a collection box at South Plainfield Library.  Donations of food, paper products and personal items may be left in the box.  Canned and packaged goods are requested; please do not contribute glass items.  For more information, please call the Middlesex County Food Organization and Outreach Distribution Services (MCFOODS) at (732) 729-0880.              

Please be advised that the Library’s Notary Public will not be available from Monday, May 21^st to Tuesday May, 29^th.

The Library continues to seek help to teach craft programs for adults.  Programs may be scheduled for once a month, both daytime and evening hours are available.  Programs may also be scheduled on a one-time basis, or as an ongoing series.  If you are interested, please call the Library and ask for Millie.
